Which Domain Controller Is Used For Import RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello.

In our environment we have multiple domain controllers.  We also have 3 SSP's configured.  On one of the SSP's we have set up a custom connection to import from a specific DC.  On another SSP we have set it to import from "Current Domain (domain)".

When there are multiple DC's which DC does SharePoint 2007 choose to import profiles from when it is set to "Current Domain"?

  • It uses whichever DC it finds during the authentication process.  Take a look at the following  article on how Windows discovers domain controllers.

  • It actually depends on how your import connections are set up. If you have multiple domains within a forest, and have used the feature to import the entire forest, then for each domain, a connection will created.

These connection will by default be configured with the Auto Discovery option set, meaning the DC will be detected at run time during the import (using the one used for authentication).

You can update these connections to specify a particular DC as well. This can be done by going in to SSP --> Manage Users and Profiles --> View Import connections --> Edit a connection.

    Thanks,
