Disconnect DataModel from Source RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Is there anyway that I can send a workbook (with data from PowerQuery loaded into the DataModel) outside of my organisation but disconnected from the Source. So they would get all the data but wouldn't be able to see/edit/refresh the Data Sources?

    Thanks

    Leyton

  • Another approach to this scenario is to use Document Inspector and remove the Custom XML Data which will delete all queries, but keep the Data Model.

  • Hi Leyton,

Yes, if you send the Excel workbook (via email, for example) to other users, they will be able to see the data loaded to the data model. However, credentials info is not stored in the Excel workbook. Thus, if they attempt to refresh the data, they will be prompted to enter credentials.

They would, however, be able to see the content of your Query formulas (e.g. the server/database names being accessed, etc.).

    Hope that helps.
