To domain or not to domain? RRS feed

  • Question

  • My company is at the beginning of a POSReady pilot and I've been tasked with designing the environment. Right now I'm weighing the options of putting POSReady devices in a domain or in a workgroup, and would like some perspective from people who have already implemented WEPOS and/or POSReady in a large retail environment. What did you guys do and what challenges did you face?

  • Mike,

Choosing a domain verses workgroup will depend largely on your network topology for your POS environment.  If you will be processing credit cards in this environment I would recommend that you review the Payment Card Industry - Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS) as it does layout several requirements that you need to satisfy for compliance.
