error:26 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I go through the Error Locating Server/Instance Specified and tried to solve error:26 by mentioned answers in this forum! However, I still am unable to allow SQL Browser in FireWall although i browse and allowed SQL Management Studio Express in firewall. Even I still cannot get connected to server although the remote connection is on! Is it because I am using Windows 7 Ultimate??

  • Hi Anachra,

For connetcing named instance you need provide server_name\Instance_name >> it's backward slash and NOT forward.

Answer following question so I can help you -
    1. Are you able to connect localy?
    2. From where you trying to connect? SSMS or some application.  Some application converts \\ to \. If you are not sure about your application, please try both Server\Instance and Server\\Instance in your connection string
    3. While connecting remotely SQL Browser is running?  Have you made the exception for browser in Firewall?
    4. Have made the exception to port 1434(this is default, you need to add the port number your SQL Server running, if you haven't set it up using default)
    5. can you ping the remote machine where SQL Server is installed?
