Exchange Search Indexer failed to enable the Mailbox Database

    Question

  • Hi Everyone

I'm running an Exchange 2010 SP3 environment with 5 databases. Recently I've started having an issue with moving 1 database from one mailbox server to another. It takes up to 10min to complete the cutover from the active copy to the passive copy. Error logs show this

Exchange Search Indexer failed to enable the Mailbox Database <DBname> (GUID = f9591235-6f50-4b04-b5fd-86e34c65aff3) after 10 tries. The last failure was: MapiExceptionMdbOffline: Unable to get CI watermark (hr=0x80004005, ec=1142)

    Diagnostic context:

        Lid: 1494    ---- Remote Context Beg ----

        Lid: 44215

        Lid: 60049   StoreEc: 0x8004010F

        Lid: 49469

        Lid: 65341   StoreEc: 0x8004010F

        Lid: 56125

        Lid: 47933   StoreEc: 0x8004010F

        Lid: 32829

        Lid: 49213   StoreEc: 0x8004010F

        Lid: 48573

        Lid: 64957   StoreEc: 0x8004010F

        Lid: 9518    StoreEc: 0x476

        Lid: 1750    ---- Remote Context End ----

        Lid: 8434    StoreEc: 0x476

Lid: 13362   StoreEc: 0x476     . It will retry after 10 minutes.

The other 4 databases move without issue. It's just this 1 that takes a long time to move and throws this error.

I've dug around on the internet but most people are having this issue on recovery DBs or new DBs. This database has been active for 5 years.

    Thanks :)

  • Hi
That error was written while the database was still moving. It finally completed about 5 min after that error.

  • Hi,

If you have other DCs , it’s recommended to run the command below and check the result:

    Set-ADServerSettings –PreferredServer  <DC FQDN>

    Set-AdServerSettings -ConfigurationDomainController otherdc.contoso.com -PreferredGlobalCatalog otherdc.contoso.com -SetPreferredDomainControllers otherdc.contoso.com

Please check if it have enough spaces on that server.

Any event errors? Please post out in detail if exist.

    Hope it helps.

    Regards,

    Jason Chao

  • There is plenty of spare space on the servers, the database size is 400GB and there is 1.2TB of free space.

  • Thanks for your response.

Have you run the commands i've mentioned above?

And restart the Information Store service.

It’s also recommended to reboot the server in down time and check the results.
