  • Need to RE(IP) to new subnet - my RMS\Management Server for MOM 2005.  Can someone provide direction and article for smooth transition?

    Thanks,

  • Recommendation would be to start migrating to Operations Manager 2007 R2.  There is no longer direct support for MOM 2005.  So a smooth transition should probably include moving to a supported and current version of the product you are using.

  • As Dan stated, please consider a migration to SCOM 2007 R2.

In the mean time, you could install an extra MOM2005 management server in the new IP subnet. See this technet article which describes the way of adding an extra Management server and redistributing the agent load. You could rely on the automatic failover of the agent, but I would recommend to do it in a controlled way.

Then you can re IP the 'old' management server. Do the agent load redistribution and remove the 'new' management server.

If you, however, already have multiple management servers in place, you can re-IP the management servers without issues. Please be aware that the DNS settings are setup correctly. Remember that the agent does a connection to the host-name, so be aware on how the hostname to ip resolution is done.
