how to get Windows Photo Viewer on Windows 10

Question

Hi Friends,
I posted in the Answers forum, initially regarding this message: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/apps_windows_10-photos/change-the-background-colour-of-windows-10-photo/3a2e0364-cf5e-4909-83ce-a2501bb8b512?page=1. In that thread is a reference to an article which includes a registry edit which will make Windows Photo Viewer available on Windows 10. I needed to know how to back up the registry before I applied that edit.
However, the answer I received ignored that request, and has ultimately sent me here, to find out how to get Windows Photo Viewer. Here's that thread: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-other_settings/unable-to-view-certain-images-in-windows-10-image/f355df4f-1708-4af0-930c-e8f51f402549.
Please tell me how to get Windows Photo Viewer on Windows 10. Or otherwise, if you can recommend some kind of free photo viewer that's compatible with Windows 10, which does not have a black background, that would solve the problem as well.
Thank you very much
PS - I have no idea which forum to post this in. I hope I've chosen something acceptable.

Thanks for your reply.
Do you mean that I should post this question about Windows Photo Viewer in one of those boards or forums?
Or do you mean that the registry edit is an appropriate way to get the Photo Viewer, and I should proceed with that?
Thanks again :-)

Hi,
>>Do you mean that I should post this question about Windows Photo Viewer in one of those boards or forums?
Yep :-)
This forum mainly focus on pointing people to right forum, where you can ask the question :-)
In the right forum, there are experts in the specific field that you need, and they can help you.>> do you mean that the registry edit is an appropriate way to get the Photo Viewer, and I should proceed with that?
Personally. this is the solution that I would choose. But I don't like to advice people what they should do. I can only point you to the option. The choice is yours :-). Remember that with the choice come the risk. Registry is not something that I would recommend anyone to change. It is the core of the Operating System, but again... this is the solution that I would choose. Anyhow remember, to backup everything if you choose to change the registry, and you should not do it if you don't have the knowledge of restoring it back if needed.
