renaming computers RRS feed

  • Question

  • i have been changing the name of some computers on the network. since changing the name in the SCCM console i see the old computer and the new computer. but the new computer listing shows that the client is not installed and not approved. i have tried deleting the old computer name and waiting to see if the new computer name is ever approved and ever detects the client but it doesnt

if you go into programd and features of that renamed computer the CCM client is still there.

    any ideas?

  • the new object will show up when the computers run a heartbeat discovery. You can initiate it at the client by running the discovery cycle.

  • Here is what you can try -

    1) check the end user machine to see if the Client is actually working and also the auto site discovery is successfully.

    2) Check if the end user machines were able to process inventory and send it across to the MP successfully.Check Inventory.log

    3) Lastly check the MP I think in your case maybe the MP is having issues and hence the newly built machines are not showing on the console. Check the server status message for errors.

As in your case only newly built machines are having issues and also you confirmed SCCM client is already installed you may wanna check the MP again for any health issues.
