Is there a way to disable One Drive? RRS feed

  • Our office uses the new Microsoft 365.

    My CEO has been having random issues, especially in Excel when he goes to Save As. He doesnt click on One Drive, he clicks on Browse, but One Drive will open on him (obviously before he clicks on Browse) and prompt him for his password. He said many times he cant even close out of this password box, it takes several tries.

    Can One Drive be disabled or removed?

    Please first try the following method to see if it helps:

    Note: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. For added protection, back up the registrybefore you modify it.

    1. Start Registry Editor.

    2. Navigate to the following registry subkey:

    Office 2016


    Office 2013

    3. Right-click the entry, and then select New.

    4. Add a new DWORD value to the registry called NoDomainUser, and then set it to a value of 1.

    If above doesn't help, please also check if you have the following option enabled in Excel:

    File > Options > Save > Save Workbook section > Save to computer by default.

    If you really want to disable OneDrive when saving Office files, you can try modifying the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\xx.0\Common\Internet (Where xx is 16 for Office 2016; 15 for Office 2013. )
    Name: UseOnlineContent
    Type: DWORD
    Value: 0
