Hi Windows 2003 has a problem with detecting the number of cores and issued a hotfix.
The problem: I really don't want to deploy the hotfix and would rather use an alternate method.
I have 2 alternate methods but I don't know if they are reliable. Help?
This method uses kernel32.dll. Is this dll part of a service pack/hotfix or do all w2k3 releases have the required dll version?
This link is for a SysInternals item. Does this require the hotfix?

I don't understand why you would want to avoid a supported hotfix and venture into unsupported territory that could cause you more headaches then necessary.
Be kind and Mark as Answer if I helped.
Apparently, with a little programming people are stating that they can get accurate results without updated dlls but I don't have much confidence because the solutions do not appear to have widespread implementations and are lacking in testing details.
I would have expected more noise on this item but maybe most people have left W2K3 (as they should)
