How I solve Windows 8 Release Preview connection problem to WiFi network with hidden SSID RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I installed Windows 8 Release Preview and encountered connection problem to WiFi network with hidden SSID.  After some research on this forum and other forums, a temporary workaround solution was somehow found as below:

    - From Device Manager of Windows 8, Network adapters section, checked the driver installed for WiFi network adapter is BCMWL63.SYS.

    - The notebook installed with Windows 8 is dual booted to Windows 7.  From Device Manager of Windows 7, checked the worked driver (able to connect WiFi network with hidden SSID) is BCMWL6.SYS.

    - Booted up Windows 8 in safe mode, renamed the old driver BCMWL63.SYS in c:\windows\system32\drivers to BCMWL63.OLD.  Copied the windows 7 driver into above folder and renamed it to the one used by Windows 8.

    - Rebooted Windows 8 to normal mode and the problem is solved.

Based on my experiment, the issue most likely due to device driver.
