Approval on EMAIL RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I have to provide AD account date extensions based on the approvals. I am not able to find much documents/blog which can help in securing approval over emails. If i can send a mail with Approved/Rejected with Notes field in a mail and then call a workflow with will add some days to the expiry date and sync with AD this will complete the usecase. Can anyone help in this regards or help how approvals can be secured over mail.

  • You can sure do this in MIM Portal by manipulating EndDate (An attribute of your choice)

Create approval workflow, which sends email and requests approval.

Create MPR that triggers approval wf when EndDate is changed.

  • Thanks Nosh,

I had the same thoughts but wanted to clear some doubts.

a- When the approval over email happens, how does it notify MIM Service(MIM is accessible only on intranet).  I can trigger the next workflow activity only on approved status and increase the end date.

Is it possible for user to approve on email over internet or he needs to login to MIM portal and then see the request and approve/reject. I could not find any document regarding this and till now not reached this usecase for MIM that's why so much queries. As i progress i will share the update and solution.

  • User cannot approve over internet, using Outlook Integrations (Approve/Reject) straight from email. Unless your MIM Portal is accessible via Internet. The approval process will need to be able to communicate with MIM WebServices.

If approver is not connected to LAN, they would need to go to the MIM Portal to approve it (in which case they cant anyways). Email will simply serve as notification.

Also, for outlook integration, you need to deploy a client AddIn on all desktops.
