Deleted susbite restored from DB backup. But, only "Default Page" is restored in Pages Library RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We restored a deleted site from Database backup using the instructions in the URL:

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/1f56f070-bcef-42b5-9896-289732f03973/restore-the-deleted-site-in-sharepoint-2007

Briefly the steps are as below:

                           a.     Create a new Web App as a test

                           b.       Central Admin->Application Management->Create or extend Web App->Create New Web App.

    c.        Remove Content Database from your new web app.

    d.       Associate restored DB with new Web App

    e.       Central Admin->Application Management->SharePoint Web Application Management->Content Databases->

    f.         use STSADM to add restored DB to this web app

                                    c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extentions\12\bin

                                    run this command from there.

stsadm -o addcontentdb -url http://yourwebapp:port -databasename yourcontentdb -databaseserver yoursqlserver

    g.        Run ISSRESET from command prompt.

WeApplicaiton got restored and also the deleted subsite, but pages library in this subsite has only "Default.aspx" showing up. All other pages that existed in original deleted subsite were not visible. Do we need to do any other steps to get them.

    Please help.

    Thanks,

    Neelima.

  • Hi neelima,

We can’t attach same content database to the same farm, even the copy one has been renamed. Even the original content database/web application has been deleted, the database may not synchronized after that.

So please try the following command to force a synchronization job to run.

    stsadm -o sync -listolddatabases 0
    stsadm -o sync -deleteolddatabases 0
stsadm -o sync -synctiming m:1 //force a syncronization job to occur within the next 1 minute
stsadm -o sync -synctiming h:1 //At the end, set the syncroniztion schedule back to 1 H

If the new web application still does not work, detach the content database from the server, run above command again before reattach it to the web application.

  • Hi,

We attahced content database in another farm, not same farm.

Basically, subsite was deleted by some user in Test environment and we are doing these experiments(restore subsite) in Dev server.

    Thanks,

    Neelima.

  • Hello Neelima,

You could try opening the _layouts/ settings.aspx page of the subsite  & see if this opens. Have you tried opening the site in SharePoint Designer to see if you are able to contents.

If yes, then export the subsite & then import again on a new subsite.

It could be that the subsite might be corrupt & the moment you attached to the new web application, the site has got deleted.

You could verify the same in the webs table of the content database.
