AD account disable and the exchange account become orphaned.

Question

For some reason recently when I disable the account the exchange account is gone and i have to reconnect the mailbox to the account after the account is enabled. Can someone point me to the right direction to figure out what is going on.
The AD is 2008 R2 and Exchange 2007.
Thanks.

Are you disabling the account or the mailbox? Disabling a mailbox in the Exchange Management Shell or Exchange Management Console does exactly what you observed--it disconnects the mailbox from the user account. Removing the mailbox deletes the account too.

It is by design. May I kown why you need to disable the AD account? May be there is a workaround.

I can't help further without the exact procedure you're following with all steps.
