Logging changes in SCSM RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been asked by our management how changes in SCSM (changes to views, workflows, templates, notifications etc.) are logged and where?  We are a financial institution and change control/logging is something we have to establish with every new system that is put in place.

  • Hey

All changes on the Service Manager Infrastructure should go through the regular Change Management Process, means that you should create Change Requests for all modifications. Is that not enough to fulfill your requirements?

  • Not quite...the approach our company takes is different.  In addition to the regular change request process, our Information Security department monitors all system changes and verifies the proper change request(s) have been submitted and approved.  Sort of a "tripwire" type of approach.  We have to set up similar monitoring for each system we put in place.  Surely there is logging in SCSM that shows who is making changes and what they are...

  • Can anyone confirm whether or not there is a log that shows who is making changes?  I haven't been able to find anything yet.

  • The only change logging is for work items and configuration items.  All the configuration for items you are asking for it stored in MPs.  Theoretically, you could regularly export all unsealed MPs and use a program to create reports with the differences.  But you would have no way of knowing who made the change, when specifically in the time frame, or any intermediate changes in that time frame.
