Permission level for subset groups RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have a sharepoint 2007 Sites where  I want to give Admin and Contributor permission to two security Groups "A" and "B". B is in fact a subset of security group A. I want to give "A" contributor access and "B" as Admin access. When I tried doing so I am ending up with all the users(including that from B) defaulting to Contributor acess only. I undersand this might be happening becuase of minimum permission level policy but how do I accomodate my requirement. I can not have two distinct groups as "A" is a organisation level group and every employee will be a part of this group.

    Thanks,

  • I wonder just what the OP means by security gorups.

I can't see that a SharePoint group consisting of users 1,2,3,4,5,6 and given Contributor rights would affect in any way a SharePoint Group consisting of users 1,3,5 given Administrator rights.

    1, 3, 5 would have Administrator rights

    2, 4, 6 would have Contributor rights

Only if the Contributor specification included a right not given to the Administrator specification (in the default versions, Administrator is Contributor plus extra rights) would 1,3,5 *also* have Contributor rights that would be anything different to what they already have as members of the SP group with Administrator rights.

  • Hi Siaj,

When you say - you want to give Group B admin access - do you mean Full access or Site collection administrators?

In either case group B should have contributor right on your site in addition to their other privilege.

    Hope this helps.
