Shared Services Provider creation failed - User cannot be found. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I tried to create a new SSP in SharePoint 2007 server farm using Central Administration Tool. The process failed, I got the following error message,

    Shared Services Provider creation failed
    Reason: User cannot be found.

Check the event log for details.

Note: SSP provisioning will be retried periodically. If you correct the error that caused this failure, provisioning will subsequently succeed. To stop provisioning from being retired, delete the SSP.

The following error logged in SharePoint ULS

My question is what is error "User cannot be found" mean? Our SharePoint server farm created a couple of years ago. The original creator's network id is no longer a valid network ID. Does is cost any issues?

    Thanks in advance,

    Peter

  • Hi,

Did you rename or delete the old farm administrator in active directory?

If so, replace the primary farm administrator account and recreate the SSP.

Log to the SharePoint server Open Central administration site > Click ok Application management>>site collection administrator. Then remove old user name and add renamed account from the site collection administrator.  Finally, test again.

    Thanks,

  • According to this article http://www.nangets.net/?p=172

SharePoint 2007 is trying to use the user who created the first SSP or default SSP (don’t know exactly). That user’s account is no longer in our SharePoint 2007 server farm. even worse, we don't know which account was used to create the default SSP. My question is how can I find out the original account which created original SSP?

    Thanks in advance,
