I am trying to activate a Office 2010 KMS key... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

I am trying to activate a Office 2010 KMS key with the Volume Activation Management Tool 2.0 running on Windows Server 2008 R2.

I have got the key from the Microsoft Volume Licensing Centre, I then put it into VAMT under the product keys area. Next I click the "Unlicensed" item in the tree view, and right click the Product name: Microsoft Office 2010, KMSHost edition, and click "Install Product Key..." I choose the key I just installed and click ok.

I then get a box pop up and the Action Status says: "Invalid class".

    What is "Invalid class"?

    Thanks,

    Steve.

  • The error code may indicate a mismatch between your system clock time and that of the activation server.  Could you please make sure your time, date, and Internet zone are correct?  Then try the cscript slmgr.vbs /ato bfe7a195-4f8f-4f0b-a622-cf13c7d16864 command again.

Everything looks right on your KMS host... it's just a matter of establishing an Internet connection to the activation servers.  If you really just want to get the KMS host activated, then one option is to activate it by telephone.

  • Did you run the Office 2010 KMS host installer file?  Please run this first on WS 2008 R2:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=97b7b710-6831-4ce5-9ff5-fdc21fe8d965&displayLang=en

This will also prompt you for your KMS host key, so if you want to activate it you may do so with this.  This exe installs license files that will recognize the Office KMS host key.

  • Hi Ted,

Yes, I did run that program. I tried installing it twice, and also tried putting my KMS host key in and neither way seems to work for me.

Any suggestions what do try now?

    Thanks,

    Steve.

  • Could you please try the below and paste the output?  I want to see if the Office license files already installed.  If so, you could try this to unblock you:

1.) Open an elevated command prompt

    2.) Run cscript slmgr.vbs /ipk <Office KMS host key>

If the key is not recognized, then the license files didn't get installed.  If you're successful here, then run the below.

    3.) cscript slmgr.vbs /ato bfe7a195-4f8f-4f0b-a622-cf13c7d16864

    4.) cscript slmgr.vbs /dlv bfe7a195-4f8f-4f0b-a622-cf13c7d16864

5.) cscript slmgr.vbs /dlv (to see the Windows stuff)
