  • Try logging in as one of the users of the parent domain on your machine in the child domain, and see what the behavior is.

It sounds to me like you have an issue with permissions on various elements that make up the page (i.e they have access to the site but can't access the page layouts or images that make up the page).

    Cheers,

    Conrad

  • Hi Conrad

Thanks for your speedy response.Currently users of our parent domain are in US while the child domain where our  Sharepoint(wss 3.0) is located is in UK.When one of the users of the parent domain came to UK last week he was able to log into the sharepoint site using his credentails but when he went back to the US he's having problem, normally the users in the US use FQDN in accessing the site.Your help is very much appreciated.

  • Faruk,

Please clarify a few crucial points for me:

    1) When said user from US logged in in the UK were there no problems what so ever?

    2) When said from US logged in in the UK, what URL EXACTLY did the user access the SharePoint site from? i.e. http://sharepoint OR http://sharepoint.domain.local ?

    3) What is the EXACT fqdn the users are accessing the site from from the US? i.e. http://?.domain.com

It sounds to me like you haven't set up alternate access mappings for both the http://sharepoint unqualified domain as well as the http://?.domain.com FQDN...

    Regards,

    Conrad

  • Hi Conrad

    Thanks for your quick response

1.When the users from US login they are being ask for their credential when accessing every page. Also the image in dataview webparts does not appear while the images in list view web part appear. When they right click the images on the DVWP they see that the image point to the internal name but when they right click thesame image on listview web parts they see that the images are point to the fqdn

    2. Users from US access the site using http://sharepoint.doamin  i.e http://ukxxxxxx.yyy.ss.com/site/test/default.aspx

3 The fqdn is like http://ukxxxxxx.yyy.ss.com/site/test/default.aspx

Your help is very much appreciated.

  • Faruk,

You have misread my questions slightly!!

Question 1) asked if when the US users come to the site in the UK and log in in the UK with their US account do they have any problems? NOT do the US users have problems logging in in the US!

Question 2) What URL do UK users use to log into SharePoint?

Question 3) what do US users use to log into SharePoint.

Regarding your issues with the images/webparts I am fairly convinced you need to configure alternate access mappings for your US users.

  • Hi Conrad

    Thanks very much.

I've re-configured the  alternate access mapings and the images now appear when US users log in.

Question 1)  When US users come to the site in the UK and log in the UK with their US account they do not have any problem.

Question 2) UK users us internal name u.e http://ukssssss:2235/sites/test/default.aspx .Also when they log in using FQDN they can also get access.

Question 3)  US Users use FQDN to log into the sharepoint.

    Thanks for your help.
