Windows Installer(MsiExec) on Windows 7 misbehaving! RRS feed

  • Question

  • When i try to uninstall any program, keeping it running, the installer pops up the dialog where it shows the programs running to be modified by it.Now here if i click "Retry" it shoud comeback round to the same dialog as i still keep my program running. But the installer doesnot and goes ahead with the uninstallation. Is it supposed to be that way?

This happens on Windows 7 and i have not been able to find any reporting of this. Can anyone please help me with the working of Windows Installer 5 on 7.

  • Hi Pradeep,

I cannot reproduce the symptom which you described and when trying to uninstall a program which is running, it will keep on popping up the window with “Retry” option.

At this stage, I would like to confirm the name of the application which you would like to uninstall and the uninstalling result after closing the program. Also, please help collect a screenshot for further research.

Please upload the following information to SkyDrive and provide us the link for analyzing? You may check how to use SkyDrive for more information.

    Screenshot of the symptom

    1. Press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard.

    2. Click the "Start" menu, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter.

    3. In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste", click the "File" menu, and click "Save".

    4. The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot".

    5. Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as type" box, click “Desktop” on the left pane and then click "Save".

Please send this saved JPEG file to us.
