User didn't see web parts because targeted audiance disn't work this morning. RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have MOSS 2007 with cumulative update 6/29/2010.

Today regular users could not see their web parts on their SharePoint portal. only portal admin can see those web parts. Those web parts are configured with targeted audiance of AD user groups. After we reimport user profile, the problem is fixed.

User profile was imported at 3:00am this morning. There are only five warnings regarding delete none existing users, no errors in "View import log". There are no errors in server System event and Application event logs.

Question: Is there any log can help to find what problem was? Does Web Part check audiances from AD group or check imported AD groups? I cannot find any AD groups in SharePoint, do AD groups get imported into SharePoint?

    Any help will be appreciated,

  • Hi Steven,

SharePoint does not import AD groups into the User Profile Store; however, you can create audiences that are based on AD groups, which is probably what you're doing. The problem may be with the audience population which occurs separately from the User Profile Import. If the audiences did not re-populate correctly, it explains why the web parts disappeared.

Depending on your log threshold settings, you may not see anything in Event Viewer, so you may need to log at the ULS logs which, by default, are stored in Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\Logs.
