Can I transfer Active Directory from SBS2008 to Server Standard 2016 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All you smart people!

I'm having a bit of a problem I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

    Setup:

    Windows Small Business Server 2008

             Active Directory

             File Services

             Print Services
             Not using SQL

             Not using Exchange

Windows Server 2016 Standard (joined as a member server)

    I have run: adprep /forestprep

                      adprep /domainprep

I have Changed FSMO over to Server 2016

I ran DCPromo and haven't received any errors

I then Migrated File and Print services over to 2016 Server

After shutting down the SBS 2008 server; workstations can no longer login to the domain.  Turn the SBS back on and users can login.

I have researched this and have gone over my procedures multiple times and can not find out what I'm doing wrong.  I would like to retire the SBS 2008 server and have 2016 server become the PDC.

If you think this can not be done.  My follow up question is this...   Is it possible to use Azure AD connect to upload my SBS 2008 Active Directory, retire the SBS2008 server, then install my AD onto the 2016 server?

Thank you in advance for your input.

    -RJ

condition 2: you have migrated from SBS2008 to windows server 2016 std DC(without server essentials experience role)
2 can you check network adapter setting on server 2016 std ?
the preferred DNS is the ip address of w2016 and the alternative DNS is SBS2008
