    I'm trying to resolve my User Profile Synchronization service error by downloading and installing the SPS 2010 Dec 2011 Cumulative Update.  When I double click on the file, I get a 'application failed to start because the side-by-side configuration is incorrect' error.  This is a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server.  I can't find anything productive online.

    Anybody seen this and/or have a resolution?

    Try downloading it again or re-extracting it.  You'll see this when the built-in manifest is corrupted in some form or fashion.

    Yeah, for some reason even the 2nd download didn't work either, but the third did.
