RMS protected Excel VBA running very slow RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have an AD RMS protected excel with VBA macro, the VBA macro running very slowly when compared to un-protected Excel (4:1).

    Below are how I test.

    1. Protect the excel file with VBA macro by using "Restrict Permission by People".
    2. Open protected Excel and run the VBA macro.
2.1 VBA code read from a text file around 15MB and generate 20~30 new sheets.
2.2 There was no network access and it took about 35 seconds to finish.
    3. Open un-protected excel and run the same VBA macro, it took only 9 seconds to finish.

I got the same result from Excel 2007 and 2010, xls and xlsx. Is this normal? Any way to fix it? Thanks!

  • Hi Raymond,

how oft is the VBA macro saving the file back to disk?

Because as long you just edit content Excel is writing ack the file to disk. Only if you click on save, and then the file content must be re-encrypted.

Can you share your VBA macro?
