Migrate from DPM 2007 to DPM 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Current environment is Windows Server 2008 x64 with DPM 2007 SP1 and local SQL 2005 DPM instance. What I'd like to migrate to is Server 2008 R2 with DPM 2010 and local 2008 DPM instance. Our build process has change drastically since RTM of 2008 so instead of upgrading, I have new system running Server 2008 R2 and a new DPM 2010 install. What I'm wondering is if it's possible to move the iSCSI LUNs from the DPM 2007 SP1 box over to the new DPM 2010 box, move the DPMDB to the new box and keep all of my existing replicas and recovery points.

I don't want to upgrade the existing DPM server (though I can if that's required as part of the migration process). I'd also like to avoid having to recreate all of the protection groups etc on the new box. I realize I'll need to manually upgrade the agents and do a SetDPMServer on the protected computers.

Is this possible? What's the best way to do this?
