Symbolic links and deployment RRS feed

  • Question

  • I created my reference image with many symbolic links, to shrink down the profile. I wasn't aware that sysprep doesn't recognize and copy over the symbolic links to the Default User profile.

Can anyone suggest a good way to restore the symbolic links within a task sequence?. I am deploying Windows 10 Enterprise creators edition.

  • Out of curiosity, symbolic links to what and how much is this actually saving?

  • Hi Jason,

Not so much time it's more the profile size. It has trimmed the profile by many megabytes until I realized sysprep doesn't copy over symbolic links.

  • Hi clivebuckwheat,

Did you ever resolve this issue?

I have the same problem. When deploying an application that has relative path Symbolic links in the source, the deployment image in the ccmcache does not retain the symbolic links.

If anyone has any information on how to make this work It would be appreciated.

  • Do not use symbolic links, sysprep destroys them and I had to write a script to repoint everything and had to use task scheduler to run it on login

In theory it was a good plan, in practice it was a nightmare and caused me more work.

Sorry but stay away from symbolic links on your reference images.
