Can't Activate KMS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

I'm trying to activate Win7 and Office 2010 KMS keys. I am running the KMS host on Windows Server 2003 R2.

I get an error which says:

    Activating Windows(TM) Server 2003 KMS, W7R2-Kms1 edition (d188820a-cb63-4bad-a9a2-40b843e
    e23b7) ...
Run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0x80072F8F' to display the error text.
    Error: 0x80072F8F

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

    Thanks!

    Steve.

  • Hi Steve,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums.

Based on my research, error code 0x80072F8F occurs when your computer date/time is too different from the data/time of the SSL certificates used by Windows Activation Server. For detailed information, please see:

    Cause

0x80072F8F is a generic HTTP failure.

    0x80072F8F = ERROR_WINHTTP_SECURE_FAILURE

Retail activation (which MAK keys fall under) uses HTTPS for the connection between the client and the server. If the time is not synchronised between the server and client. The client may fail to validate the server certificate when establishing the HTTPS connection and activation would fail.

    Resolution

Setting the correct date and time and rebooting.

    Best Regards
