ISA 2006 link translation, where is it in UAG? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have setup a test environment for learning UAG with SharePoint 2007.
In SharePoint there are two web applications.
    Internal URL:
    1.     http://xx.domain.local
    2.
    http://zz.domain.local
    External URL
    1.     https://xx.domain.com
    2.     https://zz.domain.com

I have created the AAM’s and the external url’s are reachable from the internet.

On the site xx.domain.local there is a link to zz.domain.local.
In ISA 2006 you can apply link translation in a rule to change http://zz.domain.local to https://zz.domain.com.
Where can i do that in UAG?
I did find the function 'Manual URL Replacement' but can't figure out how it works. Or is this the wrong approach for link translation in UAG.

  • I assume you are talking about links that exist within the SharePoint pages themselves?
Whe have a webpart with different links to internal applications, on the external those applications also exist, but have a different url.
So whe need to change those internal urls to external urls...ISA was easy with link translation.

If not, maybe you will need to use the Search and Replace Response Content option? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd278032.aspx
That looks like a option....regular expressions??? never used it and dont know anything of it.
Maybe someone could tell what to use as regular expression for http://www.miche.local ?

Was reading your blogpost http://blog.msedge.org.uk/2010/11/problems-accessing-sharepoint-2007-rss.html, looks like almost the same. You made  a kin of ignore rule, or not?

  • Hi,

Link Address Translation is now part of the Advanced Trunk configuration in Forefront UAG

  • Don & Marc tnxs for the reply.

Have been reading both links several times and came to the conclusion that something should be wrong in the applications setting inside the trunk.

I made the addresses under Web Servers the internal ip-address of the SharePoint server, since i cant use dns/hostname (firewall restriction) and used the replace the host header with the following http://xx.domain.local.
Created a second applications with replace host header http://zz.domain.local.
Browsing external to https://zz.domain.com results in a browser redirect to https://xx.domain.com (first application in trunk).
    Strange...................for me at least ;-)

After chaning the internal ip-addresses under Web Servers, addresses in different hostnames for each application and put them in the local host file on the UAG server, it starts working. All internal addresses are perfect translated to external addresses, if the addresses are listed as application in the trunk.

But now I still have this problem.
Let’s say I have in the content a link to http://www.michel.local/ this link is working ok on the internal.
For external this link has to be translated to https://www.michel.com
Think it has to be on the Manual URL Replacement....can't figure it out.

  • It was my understanding that an AAM application like SharePoint specifically does not need to (and will not) employ HAT.

I assume you are talking about links that exist within the SharePoint pages themselves?

Have you tried adding the internal 'something.local' name in the web servers tab?

If not, maybe you will need to use the Search and Replace Response Content option? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd278032.aspx

    Cheers
