SCCM/SQL 2012 on Windows Server 2008 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to set up an SCCM 2012 SP1 Primary Site on a single Windows Server 2008 R2 box with SQL 2012.  I'm wondering if all the following roles would be supported:

    Endpoint Protection

    Reporting Point

    Software Update Point

    Distribution Point

    Site Database Server

My main concern is whether I can install WSUS 3.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and use SQL Server 2012 for its database.  The technet site (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd939928%28v=ws.10%29.aspx#WSUSdb) says SQL 2008 is the highest version supported.  Is this correct?  Do I need to install Windows Server 2012 and WSUS 4.0 in order to use SQL 2012 for the WSUS database?

Answers

  • Yes all these will work fine on server 2008 R2 and SQL 2012 except WSUS http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd939928(v=ws.10).aspx#WSUSdb you could use internal database as a workaround

  • Yes, that is correct. Even with WSUS Server Role on Windows Server 2012 you can use Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 at the max.

  • Is there a technet article that states the database requirements for WSUS on Windows Server 2012?  I may just go with Justin's suggestion of the internal database.
