Archiving / Moving to personal folder issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm having an issue I can't seem to resolve; users are unable to archive or move items from the inbox to a personal folder on their local or on their personal share on the network.

The error they are getting is Cannot move the items. The item cannot be moved. It was either already moved or deleted, or access was denied

I'm in an exchange 2003 enviro, the pst file is not oversized, I've tried it on a new account with just a few test emails and moving one email from the inbox to a local or network personal folder I get the same error.

    Archiving does not work either.

    Any sugguestions?

  • Hi Xiili,

Did you also try to create a new PST file to test?

Please check the following KB first:

You cannot move email items from Inbox folder to other folders

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924254

If the issue still appears, please compare the Group Policy settings for working users with non-working ones.

    For example:

Prevent users from adding new content to existing PST files

Large PST: Size to disable adding new content

  • You shouldn't be storing PST files on to a network share. That isn't supported and will lead to corruption of the PST file.

Sounds to me like something is blocking or scanning the object - poorly configured AV. The only time I usually see that message is when you try to move too many items at once.

  • Regardless if it is on a network drive or local, I get the same error message and it only happens to some users, which all have the same AV configured the same way and some might be using xp while others are using 7.

I've tried it on a clean environment with no av and still got the same error message with just one 7kb email so this is leading me to think there is something wrong server side.
