"Sync Contact Info Between Skype for Business and Exchange" purpose / policy? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Sfb 2016 client in Options > Personal shows within Exchange and Outlook integration the tick box for "Sync Contact Info Between Skype for Business and Exchange", but little information about it available.  Some Questions...

    1. What does it do exactly?  Is it about creating a contact within Outlook automatically for each Skype contact added.  Does it do anything else, e.g. searching for contacts within Outlook?

    2. The help page does not explain.. https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Set-Personal-options-in-Skype-for-Business-68bacc31-71d3-44c3-a4d4-64da78c447aa?NS=SKYPEFB&Version=16&SysLcid=1033&UiLcid=1033&AppVer=SFB160&HelpId=178650&ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US   n.b. Have given feedback on that link/page directly.

    3. How can you control it via policy (On-prem SFB2015 server)?  The other options for calendar etc are controllable(ish) by policy but the closest policy item of the sync option is EnableExchangeContactSync but whether set to $true or $false it has not bearing to the client.  The client log shows "EnableContactSync">false< so its getting the policy but the option on the client is still ticked and visible.

    4. What reg key does the tick box invoke in HKCU hive?

  • Thanks Leon-Lu

Still wondering how the client option is set by policy, already did the Set-CsClientPolicy -EnableExchangeContactSync $False, runGet-CsUserServicesPolicy |Set-CsUserServicesPolicy -UcsAllowed $False

But you would expect it to change the UI and grey the option out, as it does for others in the same "integration" section.  With the option unticked it changes the lookup behavior to exclude Outlook contacts, undocumented feature.

Also drawn a blank on reg key value as another option to change its value for users.  Seems it makes a flag on the server side but where exactly is not seen either.

  • Hi BrITman1,

when you run this cmd “Set-CsClientPolicy -EnableExchangeContactSync $False, runGet-CsUserServicesPolicy |Set-CsUserServicesPolicy -UcsAllowed $False” Skype for Business will not creates a corresponding personal contact in Outlook for each person on a user’s Skype for Business Contacts list,it will not make the option ” Sync Contact Info Between Skype for Business and Exchange” to be gray in the client.

Based on my research, there are no client registey keys that make the option ” Sync Contact Info Between Skype for Business and Exchange” to be gray.

  • Having the same issue. Would like to have it fixed from Microsoft side, at least in future versions or with regular updates. For a while "there are no client registey keys that make the option ”Sync Contact Info Between Skype for Business and Exchange” to be gray." is the most correct answer.
