Project Professional 2010 crashes when attempting to connect to Project Server 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Recently we have started to have issues connecting to our Project Server 2010 PWA instance using Project Professional 2010.  the same issue is reported by all users trying to connect to this server.

    the error in the Application Event log is the following;

Faulting application name: WINPROJ.EXE, version: 14.0.6123.5000, time stamp: 0x4fd267cb

Faulting module name: WINPROJ.EXE, version: 14.0.6123.5000, time stamp: 0x4fd267cb

    Exception code: 0xc0000005

    Fault offset: 0x0046412d

    Faulting process id: 0x17b4

    Faulting application start time: 0x01ce7bfa7a7a5a8d

    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\WINPROJ.EXE

    Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\WINPROJ.EXE

    Report Id: d2a3e4b1-e7ed-11e2-9a29-d3fec23144e3

The same users can connect to other Project 2010 servers without issue so it appears to be a server issue rather then an application issue but there are no errors reported on the server itself. I have attempted to find a resolution and have ensured that the software has all of the latest patches installed.  At this point I am at a loss as to why this is happening so any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

  • Based on the above info, user is having Project professional 2010 - version 14.0.6123.5000, which is June cu 2012.

Its ideal to check crash issue with updated client first - Please update client with KB – 2817385: Project 2010 hotfix package (Project-x-none.msp): June 11, 2013

If the crash still occurs, check what is the permission for user on the PWAs, what is the version of the farm for the two PWAs, what happens if user creates a new profile on system and tries to connect. Check if the PWA is able to open and its in trusted site.

If you do a "Run As" for project professional and for another user from the same system does it also get crash during connection.

Let me know how it goes.

  • This sounds like issue is due to corruption of Enterprise global. Please confirm if the application is crashing when blank project plan is opened immediately after connecting to Project Server? Also did you try top open ERP or any Project Plan via PWA.
