IE9 won't patch beyond KB2530548? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running Windows Server 2008 R2 (non-sp1) and ran Windows Updates to get updates all applicable updates for it. One of the updates offered IE9 and I accepted. After a restart, there are a new updates, one of which is KB2530548 (MS11-050) - cumulative updates for Internet Explorer 9. According to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2530548/en-us, this patch has been replaced. I checked the various bulletin pages and this update has been replaced by many various IE9 updates that came after it over the years. I installed KB2530548 and ran windows update afterwards. Windows update shows that there are no more IE updates. I then try to manually install a couple of the KBs that replaced KB2530548 (for example ms11-057) and the pop up says that the update is not applicable to my system.

    My questions are:

Why am I being offered KB2530548 even though it has been replaced by many other updates?

Why am not able to install the various other updates that replaced KB2530548 even though they are applicable to my system?
