Restrict dynamic DNS updates RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there any way to restrict data of dynamic DNS updates?

We would like to restrict the data to our internal IP range (in a specific zone).

Clients send IP's of virtual interfaces (virtualbox/hyper-v) or local IP's in their home network (over VPN) in their DNS records... leading to systems/support is not able to connect to the client computer via dns hostname

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your question.

    • Is the address assigned to the client through the DHCP server? Maybe you can set a specific scope for these qualified clients, and then uncheck the Enable DNS dynamic updates according to the settings below of scope properties.
    • You could look into having a separate DNS zone for your non-AD computers and then adding in an extra DNS search suffix for them. Set the domain's property Dynamic updates value to None .

    Best regards,

  • Create a DWord named "DisableDynamicUpdate" with value of under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters in registry
