  • try this solution

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-update-error-80073712#1TC=windows-7

or maybe It can be caused by corrupted data for Windows update. If this is your case fix could be easy.
    1. go to services and stop Windows update service
    2. locate C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ folder and delete all its content
    3. start Windows update service
    4. check for updates

  • guys

rather than reply "i have the same problems", will be better if you create new thread, maybe the resolution for your case different than OP

Please provide as much as information you got there, PC specs, detail error, what step that you already done ect.

For temporary fix this issue I suggest do system restore

  • do clean boot first and then update

if doesn't work, do in place upgrade and obtain the update within the process, don't forget to backup your data

  • Here's the reasons for the problem - MSFT obviously is uploaded CORRUPT updates and their servers are unresponsive.  (system) bone stock HP DV-6000/ Intel Centrino Duo Notebook Orig Win Vista Home Prem updates in 2017 to Windows 7 Home Premium with a clean install.

I've had this problem on and off for the last 6 months on "Security Roll Up" Updates, 90% of the time they don't even download and the error is incorrect as the % bar and amount = 0% and the download gives up prematurely.  Obviously this is a MSFT Server Problem!!

I have also tried the "standalone" installers and they fail as well. Conclusion, the updates are faulty. Twice in the last 2 months the roll ups installed by themselves a month later, maybe after the dope MSFT Engineers figured out the servers were buggy or the Roll-ups had bugs.

If you haven't learned by now, MSFT apparently has NO TECH SUPPORT IN THE USA! No matter how much you demand Tier 2, 3 or 4 and USA only support all you get are the ignorant idiots in the Philippines which another step down from the dopes previously in the India outsourced call centers. All they know how to fix anything is to delete your install cashe and library in the registry which fixes nothing. Their handy-dandy 3-ring "answer binder" is about as useful as toilet paper.

Lets face it, MSFT is no longer interested in supporting any OS, just making money on sell apps in the App Store, selling X Boxes and trying to break even selling Surface computers. If you have Windows 7, you are already on the "Extinction List" and support is no better than None.

Thank you MSFT, you make switching to either Chrome, Mac OS or some version of Linux a lot more appealing everyday.
