Project Server 2010 add or remove work space users RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Is it possible to programatically add or remove the the users to project workspaces with specific privileges.

Also how to generate the report on security permission changes. i.e. who and when changed the user or work space permissions.

  • HI there,

    See Paul's excellent article:

Project Server has its own permission model that works differently to the SharePoint permission model. Users are added to Project Server via the PWA > Server Settings > Manage Users interface and not the SharePoint Site Actions > Site Permissions interface. This is because users will be added to the PWA site based on their Project Server permissions, to an extent the same can be said for the Project Sites. Although Project Sites appear and function the same as a normal SharePoint site, certain lists / document libraries work very differently to standard SharePoint lists / libraries. The Project Documents library, Risks list and Issues list link back to Project Server so therefore when editing / adding items, firstly the SharePoint permissions will be checked, then the Project Server permissions will be checked. If the user doesn’t have the correct permissions in Project Server, then they will see errors, even if they have full control on the Project Site.

You can add users using PWA using Resource web sevrvice of PSI:

Also, using SP object model - SPUserCollection class

For the second requirement, You will need to have customized solution to store the data in a custom table on the specific event like security events in server side event handlers of project server.

  • Hi all,

Amit, I was reading the Paul´s article and I found it useful, but also I´m interesting in get ideas about how to programmatically add a user to a certain workspace.

The only way I know to do it, is to add a user first to the Team of a project, and after add that user to a certain Task in this Project. In this way the user can be able to enter the Project Workspace associated to that Project.

    Hope that helps!
