Portal Upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi I have the old Portal that came with System Center 2012 R2 RTM

There is now an HTLM 5 update which requires Windows 2012.

Our current Service manager portal resides on windwos 20008 R2.

What is the procedure to upgrade to the new HTML 5 Portal?

Do i uninstall the old web portal and decomission the server? and at the same time build from scratch a windows 2012 machine and install the Portal update?

Any kind of guidance would be appreciated.

  • Yes, both portals can co-exist on different machines. You can decommission you old portal server, once new HTML5 one goes into production.

  • You can use same machine for installing new HTML5 portal. After uninstalling old portal, you have to follow some steps mentioned in  Deployment guuide (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh914195.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396) before you install new portal.

HTML5 portal needs Windows Server 2012 R2, but it seems that your machine is 2012. If thats the case then recommendation will be to install new portal on fresh machine and decommission old portal machine

  • The current Portal is on Windows 2008 R2. Can I just build a new machine/portal server in parallel and then switch over to the new portal/server and decommission the old one?
