LAPS - Password Backup

    Question

  • Hello,

I have recently implemented LAPS into my company and it is now managing around 200-300 machines local password.

As you will know the passwords are saved in Active Directory.

I would like to know if i where to lose AD or even my whole server is there a way to access the Local admin passwords of the machine, if there any type of backup for the credentials.

    Thanks,

    Aaron

  • If your AD is down or not reachable, you can use a recovery ISO/CD/DVD such as DaRT to change the local admin password. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/jj190829.aspx or you can also recover AD :)
