    MDT 2013 Update 1

    UEFI Partition layout

    Standard Client Task Sequence

    Windows 10 Preconfigured WIM file

    Question

I am looking for a method for deploying my image to a target computer which will be defined as a new computer, I have the wim file setup the way I need it so I don't need it to run through the admin account. I am new to MDT and I am trying to create a simple solution for my systems.

    Can it be done.

  • MDT has to run in the .\Administrator account if you are in a full OS.  You could create your own custom steps that only do anything in WinPE.  I have not tried what you are speaking of but, for the most part I would say you would skip

Please note this is not supported or the way MDT was intended to work (and no one I know of tests this way including me):

You would end up skipping everything after your Task Sequence's 'Install\Install Operating System' step.

Basically you are asking MDT to behave like Symantec Ghost.

Most important details are logs. If you are unsure how to post logs or where to find them then reference https://keithga.wordpress.com/2014/10/24/video-mdt-2013-log-files-basics-bdd-log-and-smsts-log/

  • This sounds like what MDT is designed to do.  Have you tried this and not had success?

  • I have been able to deploy a new image sysprep and capture it, but I am wanting to deploy an image on the target that I have customised and don't want mdt to mess up by running the admin account all it needs it to be deployed to the target system and the image will start the oobe for the end user, all apps and configs are in the admin already.

  • I hear what you are saying, so it would be better if mdt ran the full task sequence. So how would you go about creating a recovery solution for an end user.

I am trying to put myself in the place of a person who has no experience with computers or recovery of operating systems.

  • Are you trying to do OEM type stuff?

  • That could be the likely scenario I would need. Is there any documentation on how to achieve this type of deployment

  • There might be.  I haven't done OEM.
