Adding XP computer to Home Group Win 7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Win 7 home Group established and wish to add a Win XP machine to the group for file sharing.  I have a base Win 7 desktop computer and Win 7 laptop which is recognized by the base computer and vice versa.  The laptop can recognize the XP machine but the desktop can't.  What gives?

  • Windows XP does not have the capability to join the HomeGroup that first appeared in Windows 7.  However, you can set up your own Workgroup and all three computers can be be linked together and the HomeGroup can still be used between the Windows 7 computers.
