Client performance problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a big problem with a large number of clients. The symptoms are:

Very slow start and extreme disc activity between  15 minutes to an hour after the startup.
The disc activity makes the client almost unusable. Everything is extremely slow.

The clients are running Windows XP SP3, Office 2007, Symantec Endpoint Protection 11, SCCM client and
    a number of different applications.

It seems that the problems are connected with the SCCM client. If we stop SMS host agent, the problem
    seems to disappear.

We discovered WMI errors in sccmexec.log on the affected computers. We have tried rebuilding WMI
and reinstalling the SCCM client, and it appeared to solve the problem.
Unfortunately the problem reappear on some of the computers. They're having problems and WMI errors
again and we have no idea to what is causing this.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

    Regards,
    Lene

  • Hello Lene,

Are you using SCE server to manage your clients? This forums is for SCE related issues.

You can post the query on SCCM forums, if you are using SCCM and here is the link:

    Hope this would help.
Please let us know if your question is related to SCE.

  • Hello Lene,

Try a Clean Boot on the problematic agent to see if it helps.

    1. Click Start->Run.

    2. Type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) and press Enter.

    3. Click on the Services tab, check "Hide All Microsoft Services" and click on the Disable All icon.

    4. Click on the Startup tab and click on the Disable All icon.

    5. Click OK to restart the computer and see if the problem still occurs.

Note: After rebooting the computer, you will receive a "System Configuration Utility " window, then please check the check box "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when…".

After restarting your system, please check if this issue occurs again. If the problem does not exist, we can enable them one by one in the Startup tab list to test which program caused the issue.

For SCCM issue, you'd better use the SCCM Forum as Anshu posted.

    Thanks,

  • I'm not familiar with the newest version of Symantec's products, but I see a similar issue with McAfee.  McAfee includes a script scanning tool that slows the scripts run by the SCE client by something like 10 times to 50 times.  Try disabling (or uninstalling) Symantec temporarily to see if the problem goes away.  If it does, look for a script scanning component in Symantec and disable that piece to see if it fixes the problem.
