Is this true !??? (Project Online cannot send emails !!!???) RRS feed

  • Question

  • We just spent two weeks trying to understand why our new Project Online 2013 environment doesn't sends emails.

We understand that the Project Server functionality that sends emails each time a resource gets assigned to a task was removed ! It would lead to too many emails being sent from a central location.

But Microsoft Support now tells us that the "entire" system cannot send emails !

Even in a Project's site where it says (Invite someone to this site) or (Invite someone to a conversation) ... nothing will in fact happen !!

And the workflow too will never be able to send emails... even if the "Send Emails" action is right there.

I mean !.... This is contrary to what the Microsoft promotional videos and presentations about Project Online are claiming !... This is pure false representation !...

Everyone else...100% of the competition is of course allowing emails !... Clarizen, WRIKE, JIRA, Google Docs, etc....

Now this is not the first time the INDIA based support service told me that something is impossible just to discover by myself that those same stuff were in fact possible... so i suspect this to be the case again here.

    Thanks for any help !

  • Hi sebauc,

You can integrate Project Online with Exchange Online as long as you are in the same tenant (be aware, no mix and match between online and on-premises).

Are you serious ???!!!!   So it's real that Microsoft disabled the email feature of its online solutions ?... So that's it ?...

Humm... How can i justify the purchase of such a ridiculous system ?

So i guess we were lied to when we double checked to make sure that the licenses we were about to purchase for Project Online, Project Pro and Project Lite would be enough to get a complete solution ?....

This Project Online thing as been a complete nightmare since day one. We've been on this for 3 months now and if our executive managers learn that i pushed for the purchase of a solution which is so fragile, and on top of that incapable of sending email on its own.. They will crucify me  !....

Fragile ? Yes fragile, we have currently 7 open tickets for major bugs that Microsoft were able to reproduce.

Now i just discover that the damn system is incapable of sending emails unless we purchase some additional licenses for every users !....   I am fucked !
