2007 list template into 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi I took moss 2007 list saved as template. I then uploaded the list template to Gallery which did not give problem but the template does not show up in the -New List options? As a workaround I exported the 2007 list as spreadsheet and imported it but still would like to know if there is compatibity issue or something in adding the 2007 stp. Regards Yogesh

  • Hi Yogesh,

I am afraid that MOSS 2007 list template cannot be imported directly to SharePoint 2010. I have a test uploading a MOSS 2007 .stp list template to SharePoint 2010 list template gallery. It works but I got an error  message saying “Microsoft SharePoint Foundation version 3 templates are not supported in this version of the product” when I try to create a list based on this template.

As far as I know, there shouldn’t be a compatibility issue if you create the SharePoint 2010 list from importing an MOSS 2007 exported Excel file. Fortunately, Tom has a blog talking about his solution for this issue, you can give it a try.

  • SharePoint 2010 only accepts .wsp files, not .stp.

Even using both in place and database attach upgrade methods, the site/list template will still need to be re-created.

  • Hi Lily

It should give the error message when one tries to upload 2007 stp to 2010 list template gallery rather than waiting till someone actually create list instance out of it ( which to be honest I could not because for me it doesn't appear in the available list templates - haven't tries programatically )

Excel import should not be a problem and it wasn't part of question but addional info.

    Regards

    Yogesh
