Getting error while updating farm credential RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am getting error while updating farm credential, please suggest me how I can resolve this.

There was an error encrypting or decrypting credentials. Either a credential update is currently being performed, or you must update the farm account credentials on this server before you can perform this task.

    Thanks,
    Rajesh

  • I believe the hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957691  fixes this issue:

It lists this as a fix:

When you use the stsadm -o updatefarmcredentials -userlogin DomainName\UserName -password NewPassword command to update Microsoft Office SharePoint Server farm credentials, you may receive the following error message:
There was an error encrypting or decrypting credentials.

  •  After installing this fix, still I am getting the same error. :-(

    Any suggestion ?

    Thanks,

  • You need to run the updatefarmcredentials command on each server

first run this command on the server with central admin:
stsadm -o updatefarmcredentials -userlogin %APP_POOL_CA_USER% -password %APP_POOL_CA_PWD% -identitytype configurableid

Then this command on each of your other servers:
stsadm -o updatefarmcredentials -userlogin %APP_POOL_CA_USER% -password %APP_POOL_CA_PWD% -identitytype configurableid -local

  • Try this..
    1. Open SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration, click Operations, and then click Timer job definitions under Global Configuration.
    2. Verify that the Administration Application Pool Credential Deployment job definition is no longer displayed in the list.
Note If the Administration Application Pool Credential Deployment job definition is displayed in the list, wait until it disappears from the list.

    Thanks

  • try deleting the Administration Application Pool Credential Deployment job definition, mentioned a few posts before this. Deleting it worked for me.

    Steps:.
    1. Open SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration, click Operations, and then click Timer job definitions under Global Configuration.
    2. Verify that the Administration Application Pool Credential Deployment job definition is no longer displayed in the list.
    3. Delete the Administration Application Pool Credential Deployment job definition, if it is still available.
