How to stop a user from changing backround image with SS RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have WDP enabled and the account is locked, however sometimes users change the wallpaper. I know that some settings will revert back to normal after the user logs out, but in some cases our users do not log out. We run SAM which controls the users logging in/out by using their library card numbers. I would like to stop them from changing the wallpape all together. Is there a way to do this? I am currently running SS 2.0 but I am going to be upgrading to 2.5 and I would like to try and oron out this problem before I do. Thanks.

  • Hi George, thanks for the post. I'd like to inform you that though we cannot achieve this in Windows SteadyState, we can try modifying registry and see the result:

    1.       In the editor (Start > Run > regedit) navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop (It may be necessary to create the location).

    2.       Here, edit/create the DWORD value "NoChangingWallpaper" so that it's value is 1.

    3.       Start "regedit.exe". Go to the following keys:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.jpeg

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.jpg

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.gif

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.png

    4.       Set the value ImageOptionFlags to 1.

This will help us remove the option "Set as Desktop Wallpaper". You can also check the following thread:

  • I have tried editing the registry, but that still does not stop someone from being able to right click on a photo and change the picture.
