Emails disappearing from Public Folders RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have exported a large number of public folders from an Exchange 2007 system and then imported them into a brand new Exchange 2010 system. After about 2 weeks users started noticing that emails that were copied into the folders started disappearing. I am puzzled as to why this is happening. I have looked at the size of the EDB and it is still approximately the same.

    Has anyone ever seen this?

    BTW I am running Exchange 2010 SP1 with Rollup 5 in a Hyper-V environment.

  • No age limits set that I can see. Could there be mulitple places where these can be set? What happens when the age limit has been reached? Where do the items go?

They can be set on the store level as well.

    See that link above.

If aging removes the items, they are unrecoverable from the dumpster as far as I know.

  • The age limit is unchecked on the store level. I will set the limit to the 24855 days (68 years) and see if it still happens.

If they are unrecoverable I still have the original PSTs I can re-import.

  • Have you checked the dumpster via Outlook to see if the items are recoverable?

  • No, the Recover Deleted Items option in Outlook. Highlight the pf and then access that option and see if they are there.
