There was an error while updating Management Group container RRS feed

  • Question

  • We started getting this critical error on our RMS a few weeks ago. The workflow name is our gateway server out in AREA1.  The part that concerns me is the Exception: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException.  and Message: The server is not operational.  Can someone help me troubleshoot this?

    Thanks,
    Tom

  • This event gets dropped because AD Integration is having a problem.  Do you have AD Integration set up?  And did you run MomAdAdmin?

    Thanks,

  • Hi Lincoln,

    Yes, we've had AD integration in place for about three months now. And yes, as part of that initial setup we ran MomAdAdmin in the dmz which created the neccesary containers on the domain controller. Do you know what type of problem it might be having?

    Thanks,
    Tom

  • Hi there

    I have the exact same issue.
    We have a couple of untrusted domains which are monitored by one centralized SCOM and we would like to use AD-Integration in each of these domains.
    I followed exactly Brian's instructions -> http://blogs.technet.com/smsandmom/archive/2008/05/21/opsmgr-2007-how-to-enable-ad-integration-for-an-untrusted-domain.aspx
    and now my RMS is reporting:

    There was an error while updating Management Group container.

    Exception: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException
    Message: The server is not operational.

    Domain: SCOMTEST.LOCAL
    ManagementServer: si1356.scomtest.local

    Workflow name: _SCOMTEST_si1356_SCOMTEST.LOCAL
    Instance name: vi1134.intitoper.local
    Instance ID: {C894F4BB-5694-04ED-0790-A008942ECE5C}
    Management group: INTMG001

    I captured the network traffic between the RMS and the DC of the untrusted domain and I can see LDAP queries going there and answers coming back. So there is some kind of communication between these two. I just can't see why it fails to create the SCPs.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards
    Dominique

    PS: While troubleshooting this issue I came up with a different idea. Is it possible to fake AD-Integration by just manually creating the necessary containers and SCPs? I tried it real quick and failed but maybe I just missed a part. Any idea if this is possible?
