  • Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions"

Close and restart IE for the full changes to take effect.

Windows Server versions of IE run in Enhanced Protected mode by default... this has elevated security and only allows downloads and unsigned ActiveX controls to run on sites in the Intranet and Trusted sites lists.

You should not use server versions of IE (on the Administrators account) to casually surf the web or install third-party addons or other web browsers.

Ensure that you are accepting the default security zone settings also...

Tools>Internet Options>Security tab, click "Reset all zones to default".

if you already have http://microsoft.com in your Trusted sites list... replace it with

    *.Microsoft.com and add *.live.com

to allow you to download and install server updates and patches from MSDN and TechNet domains.

    Regards.
