UAG Multiple Site HA RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am interested to see what my options are in the following scenario and what is required to achieve it.  My goal is to provide HA for direct access and UAG portals.

2 AD sites with good available bandwidth around 100 ms latency between sites

    IPV4 Intranet

A single UAG server in each site. Site 1 UAG using a seperate internal subnet on internal NIC and external subnet on external NIC from Site 2 UAG.

site 1 UAG portal accessible via site 2 UAG portal accessible by

I would like to offer Direct access high availability with users connecting to their local UAG if available and if not then connecting to secondary UAG. The same for the portals, so if a user from site 1 connects to but the UAG in that site is not available then the request is handled by UAG in site 2 and vice versa.

Is this possible to achieve using an array or by another method?

  • Hi

in an Array mode, UAG servers will share the same configuration. You can provide redurancy with Network load balancing or Hardward Load Balancing.

  • They'll also need to be in the same subnet.  if you're sites are using a stretched VLAN and BGP routing you might be able to accomplish this as you're essentially faking a single network on both sides of the UAG array and it wouldn't know any different.

the drawback is of course you don't have any control over which site the clients will connect to.
