"Edit in Datasheet view" issue in MOSS 2007 & Office 2003 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are using MOSS 2007 & Office 2003 Professional edition.

When a user tries to edit a custom list in datasheet view, the following error message is displayed:

"A datasheet component compatible with Windows SharePoint Services is not installed, your browser does not support ActiveX controls, or support for ActiveX controls is disabled."

The details of the client machines are as follows:

    1) Active X plugins are enabled
    2) MS - Office 2003 Professional edition installed (No conflicting versions of Office)
    3) IE 6 - SP3 installed

This is restricted to users of a particular geographical location and other users are able to edit in datasheet view. Are we missing something here?

    Thanks in advance,
    Gaurav

  • You need to enable the SharePoint Services Support in your Office 2003 installation.

To do this, go to Add/Remove Programs.
Select the Microsoft Office installation and click on Change.
Click Advanced and then go to Office Tools.
Select SharePoint Services Support and click Run From My Computer.

  • Going more for Serge's answer for marking as an answer because SharePoint Services support being specified is default for Office 2003 Pro (and because I don't like people proposing their own posts as answers).

While the OP states that there are no conflicting versions of Office in use, I would still if I were him check again if those users in that geographical area were not using any Office 2007 product. Even something like an office 2007 Viewer would be enough to trigger this as would something that might not seem at first thought to be Office 2007 such as Visio 2007 or OneNote 2007.
